The island is usually reached by dhow and is well known for its cultural wasini village, ancient swahili ruins, coral gardens and beautiful landscapes. An arab settlement from early 18th and 19th century feature ruins of many of the houses and a muslim pillar tomb.

MOMBASA – WASINI ISLAND - Mombasa to Shimoni 115 kms, Appx. 2 hrs

On our 1 full day wasini island, kisite marine park excursion by road, we start early from the beach hotels to be at the shimoni jetty before low tide........ Approximately 0600hrs: Depart from your hotel. The early Morning drive takes us across the ferry to the South Coast where we stop briefly at Diani for breakfast at the excursions departure point. We later proceed to the historical small fishing village of Shimoni driving via coastal settlements with views of palm trees, cashew nuts, mango trees, and rice paddies.

At Shimoni jet board an authentic motorized Lamu dhow, which cruise and sail you through an enchanting seascape of Islands to the underwater splendors of the Kisite Marine Park. Here snorkellers will marvel at the incredible variety of marine life in the shallow and warm waters around Kisite Island a bird sanctuary.

We escort Scuba divers to explore a number of excellent dive sites, also teeming with an astounding variety of Marine life which inhabit the magnificent coral reefs in and around the park. A sumptuous Swahili style seafood lunch is served in Wasini Island restaurant. Thereafter visit the traditional Muslim village. After an unforgettable day on and around the Islands. We return you to your hotel in the late afternoon.

At Wasini Island, we will disembark and take a discovery stroll through the Island and its pure Swahili culture also visiting the giant coral garden and the adjacent mangrove swamp forest. Our guide will give us an in depth oration throughout the tour. Later, we will settle down for an adventurous barbeque seafood lunch with local Swahili accompaniments. After a short reflective siesta, we board our dhows for the sea trip to the Shimoni jetty. Time permitting; we visit the Shimoni caves where slaves were “stored” during the old slave trading days before shipment to the Zanzibar slave market.
